Copyediting
Once your manuscript has been developed and gone through several rounds of self-editing, a copyedit (on manuscripts that a "medium" to "light" touch) is ideal. This service will ensure that the text is ready to either be sent to a literary agent or publisher for consideration. If self-publishing, it ensures the next is ready to be formatted into a book file.

Mechanical Editing
Spelling, punctuation, grammar, and usage make up the majority of mechanical editing. This edits is necessary to ensure your line-by-line prose is easily read and understood by your reader.
Other areas we check: word hyphenation, capitalization, treatment of numbers and numerals, quotations, italics and bold. For nonfiction: tables, lists, headings, citations, etc.

Global Issues
Oftentimes, especially in fiction, global issues crop up throughout the manuscript. We will check for "global" issues such as inconsistent word use or character descriptions, inconsistent application of terms, etc.

Continuity
With regard to key elements of the manuscript that rely on plot, setting, characters, etc., we check for "continuity," or consistency, throughout the book. We'll look out for inconsistent plotlines; bad "choreography," like when a character enters the room once and suddenly enters again; and all the little details in between

Wordiness and Word Economy
As with all editing services, the goal is always to succinctly tell the story and eliminate wordiness and convoluted passages. We'll work to eliminate extraneous adverbs and help to simplify the text using strong verbs and sensory details.
